Providing Information & Connection for People with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and Related DiagnosesFAQs: Frequently Asked QuestionsQuestion: Why can’t you hold meetings more often? We wish we could! The NNFCN is dedicated to “sticking around” until science provides a cure for us all and the organization is no longer needed. Until then, the NNFCN is solely run by PWIs (people with illness). We have determined 6 meetings a year (3 info, 3 social) are manageable and within our health limits.Question: What does “and related diagnoses” in the NNFCN slogan mean?Fibromyalgia (FM), Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Chronic Fatigue & Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS), and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) are all neuro-immune illnesses. Indeed, CFS, CFIDS and ME are all names for the name syndrome. Gulf War Syndrome and Lyme Disease also fall into the “neuro-immune” category. There are other, related diagnoses that are often experienced by people with FM/CFS, etc. Some of which are: Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS), Interstitial Cystitis (IC), Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), etc.Question: Are you a support group? What’s a network?Support groups typically offer discussion meetings monthly or more frequently. The NNFCN is a network. We hope to act as a “hub” for FM/CFS activities in our region. As support groups begin to form throughout our community, we will add that information to our website. When classes are held in our region, we will post that information. We will continue to provide 3 meetings & 3 socials annually.Question: How long has the NNFCN been active? The NNFCN was formed in May of 2008. We knew several people in the area who have FM/CFS, but many did not know others with the same diagnosis. The formation of the network was to provide people in our region an opportunity to connect with others who have this illness, to reduce the feeling of isolation so often experienced within this population, and to create a strong FM/CFS presence within the community. The NNFCN volunteer committee quickly formed with wonderful, dedicated individuals who generously give of their time and energy to contribute to the lives of others who contend with these devastating illnesses.
